pete make a list of issues and topics to discuse maybe contact gumby since i thinbk he said he knew a little about it. that way when we do have a meeting set we have all the issues ready and set, ant topics all that, and post them prior to the meeting maybe pm them to interexsted people. this will give time for peopleto reseach and think about a educated idea of what is to come. then we can all come prepared to give input.

I honestly don't have a lot of free time right now. That is why I was hoping some other people would step-up and run with this. I can help but I don't have the time to take the lead on this.

Pete, I would love to jump into this with everything I have but I am in my final year of my bachelor program and still working full time. My hands are tied until May. After that I wouldn't have a problem with some organizing etc... I can forward you what I found on starting a club if that helps. I think an online meeting with some organized points would be a great start. I'll see if I can throw something together tomorrow to talk about in a future meeting. We can go from there.

Mike,
I think that is one of the issues on hand. All of us that are kind of pushing this are too busy ourselves to take control. This website alone takes up a lot of my time already and I still want to do more with it.
I have packets on and all the information on starting the club. So that part is kind of covered, but obviously if someone has actually filed the paper work that would help.
As to what we need to do now?
Club Name: Club Officers:President?VP?Treasurer?Class Reps? (what do we really need) Articles of Organization and bylaws: (in other words, what is the purpose of our club. Our goals)
We also need to get an idea of how many people would actually join and participate as well.

My 2c:
From watching this discussion and having been through all of it (Marathon Off-Road, CWIRA and a few others), I think you guys need to go a slightly different direction.
"Clubs" are complicated, social endevors that generally consume about 90% of the free time of 10% of the members. Success will come and go with the wind, and as the membership changes so do the goals and perceptions.
What it sounds like you all want to do is:
Preserve and grow Quad Racing (kinda) as you know it.
Gain some control over what kind of events are run and how they are structured (classes?).
Increase available QUALITY "track time" amongst yourselves.
Control costs (see #1).
Have more fun (see also #1).
What strikes me is that what you should may be looking at doing is forming an "Association" rather than a "Club" I point to the CWIRA as one example, as well as the SWIRA. I can't speak on the Southern group but Central has done real well for the past 20 or so years. As an Association they only meet formally (everybody) twice a year with everything handled by the elected board members. The same legal power/protections are in place as a club but it gets right down to the task at hand rather than the problems of trying to manage a club and club members.
Take a look at www.cwira.com and/or call Larry Starngfeld at 715-591-1000 and start asking questions. Larry's been there from the start and is just as motivated as the rest of you to keep the sport growing so I'm sure he'll "share" his insights.

The main difference with what Bill is talking about is basically going back to what Chuck, Deana, Chris, and Scott originally tried a couple years ago.
Who out there wants to take on organizing a series????
Maybe Rich can chime in on this one as he has been involved with the CWIRA as well.
Unfortunately I think we would fall the same way it did a couple years ago as no one has the time to dedicate like it would need, to make it work. I don't see how that would make race day more affordable? Instead of being fun, it would now be turned in to the headache of making ends meet.

No, not really. At least in what they were trying to do.
The structure, however is valid. You folks just have to decide what it is you really want (as far as what this collective group of people is going to provide). The small ""association board" is much more effective than "club meetings" - which you guys are finding out.
One step further - the "virtual meeting" idea you guys tried is interesting. Let's say you get to the point of getting this going - who's to say the "board meetings" couldn't be via the net? That might be the best of both worlds.

I think the virtual meeting is going to be the only way this will ever really work. People aren't close enough to make a face to face meeting possible. A small local club is one thing, but we are looking at hopefully getting insight from everyone across the state.
I have talked to some people who told me they were following along on this topic, but just haven't posted anything but interested in being part of it.
I'm going to keep pushing this along...............hopefully more people step-up. Even to just confirm they would join the club.
